Most prototypes are built to look right in a meeting. Mine are built to tell the truth about what happens next.
I take a material, a shape, or a product idea and build it into something real, fast enough to test, cheap enough to fail without it costing you a serial production budget to find out. Every prototype has a fixed cost target before it gets built, not after. That target is what keeps a good idea from turning into an expensive one without anyone noticing.
Once it exists, it gets tested. Against the standard it has to meet, against the load it has to carry, against whatever will actually break it in the real world. Not against my own opinion of whether it looks finished.
What comes out the other side is not a proof of concept sitting in a drawer. It is a product with a known cost, a known weight, and a known process, ready to go into serial production without a second round of expensive surprises.

A meeting room is a bad place to find out if something works. Everyone wants it to. That is exactly the problem.
A prototype is built on engineering, calculations and a clear expectation of what should happen. Then it gets tested against that expectation. It either meets it or it doesn't.
A failure at this stage is not a disaster. The prototype already told you where the risk was. You find out at prototype cost, not at production cost.
It doesn't matter what it is, a yacht hull, a helmet shell, a shower tray, a train interior panel. The process stays the same: calculate what should happen, build it, test it, and adjust based on what actually happened.
